Facebook expects to announce its 500-millionth user next week, and will mark the occasion with new consumer marketing initiative called “Facebook Stories.” Last week, BoomTown got wind of the effort–which will center on a variety of life stories from users about the impact of the social networking site on their lives–and asked Facebook about it. The company confirmed its impending launch and put Randi Zuckerberg on the horn to tell me the story behind “Stories.”

The Irish fiddle tradition goes back several hundred years; there is not a lot of information about its earliest origins. After the Gaelic aristocracy was removed from power in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, the formal Irish court music, largely harp music, also faded away. People might play music for saints' festivals, weddings, funerals or other special occasions, but generally on a casual basis–there was no formal body of written music that people played. The fiddle tradition evolved as a folk tradition entirely, a body of dance tunes that might have had some relation to the earlier formal styles of court music, but no direct link. Much of the Irish music influenced, and in turn was influenced by, the Scottish musical traditions as well, especially the pipe tradition, which led to the development of the Donegal fiddle style.
The fiddle tradition was largely aural (not oral); by which I mean that the music wasn't written down much; tunes were transmitted by ear. Regional styles developed because there was not a lot of travel across Ireland, so the music of the West had different sound, techniques and tunes than music of the North or South.
Hmmm…I have much more I should say, but I'm a little short of time just now. You may e-mail me if you like, or I can try to get back to you later if you keep this question open.
Edit: The dance music that was the core of the Irish musical tradition was a pretty private thing; players didn't become widely known outside their local villages until the later nineteenth century, as music began to be recorded and preserved. Certainly the Great Hunger (which most people call the Potato Famine) caused a great dispersal of the Irish as they left their homeland for some place that could support them. Many thousands of Irish people settled in Canada and in the U.S., bringing their music with them. Because there might be Irish people from different parts of Ireland, but settling in American cities like Boston, New York and Chicago, for the first time the differing regional musical styles began to collect in one place. In Chicago in particular, a police chief, Captain Francis O'Neill, made a great effort to preserve the music by writing down the tunes he heard, especially from those Irish who were freshly arrived from across the water. His huge compilation, "Music of Ireland" is still the primary book that every Irish musician has in their collection.

This is a rather funny question. Not silly, funny. Because even those who are already making money with affiliate marketing are still asking the same question.
It's like martial arts. If you ask the instructor how he got so good, he'd probably tell you to answer your own question after two years.
There are many approaches. And I will discuss some not as an expert but as a seasoned newbie.
I've been studying affiliate marketing for over a year now. I made my first sale in my first month. That was luck. Since then, and for almost 6 months, I never made a sale. Then it started improving. I have no significant average, but I have made my first $100. Mincemeat.
First you decide on what niche market to engage in. I am in a very competitive niche, the make money online niche. I still have to get to trying less competitive niches which I just can't make a choice right now.
Anyway, I made my first sale through an old blog where a visitor clicked on an affiliate banner. Back then, I never knew about advertising as I thought traffic would just come naturally. I was wrong.
Some affiliate marketers, after choosing a niche, would look for affiliate programs relevant to that niche. Then they would choose products or services to promote. Even if they don't have their own websites, they would write informative articles related to their chosen niches and submit these articles to article directories.
At article directories, their articles would have their signatures which have links to the sales pages of the affiliate products they are promoting.
The Internet is basically about information. When a potential buyer searches for information, search engines usually show web pages or articles they have indexed which are relevant to search terms used.
What affiliate marketers do is use keywords in their articles to match the search terms being used by people in their chosen niches. Because of the match, the chances that their articles get read are better.
After reading a good article, a potential buyer may be interested in checking out the link in the author's signature. Once the affiliate sales page is reached, a possible sale can happen, and the author/affiliate marketer earns a commission.
Search engines love reviews of products and services, and so do buyers. Many affiliate marketers are quick to act when there is a hot product. They usually race to get a .com domain and use the name of the product plus the word review as domain name and put up a review site, with their affiliate links of course.
For long-term profit, affiliate marketers build contact lists. They usually do this by creating a squeeze page site where they offer free gifts to entice visitors to submit names and email addresses in exchange. Then they try to nurture good relationships with their list members.
Marketers with fairly large lists, say 100K members, can repeatedly promote products to their lists. If they have a salable product, say with a commission of $10 each sale, and they sold only 1,000 units, they make $10,000. If they have a million members, well, you can tell.
To drive traffic or visitors to their articles, websites and squeeze pages, affiliate marketers usually use a number of marketing methods. Foremost of these is search engine optimization or SEO.
A free Blogger blog I know, which is often #1 on page 1 of Google search has great SEO. It gets around 5,000 visitors a day and averages $3,000 a month from Google AdSense alone. Other marketers pay the owner just to have their ads displayed at his blog.
The AdSense ads we see at search results and in websites are usually the advertisements of affiliate marketers using pay-per-click or cost per impression marketing.
There are many other methods, but it takes time, patience and persistence to really get good at this.
I only use free marketing methods. My performance is improving, but I still have a lot to learn.
I hope I have shared something worth your time.

If no mortgage is necessary call a real estate attorney and he will draw up a new deed which everyone will sign and he will notarize and have it recorded for a small fee.
But if you want to be safe, have the lawyer do a title search on the property to see if there are any existing liens on the property.

It's terrible to say that you have had so many bad experiences but… Remember that there is not a person on the face of the planet who lives with no worries. Even if it seems silly and stupid, even celebrities like Paris Hilton have problems (albeit they might just be "what should I wear today" or "what does the general public think of me now"), and it's unfair to "accuse" others of having perfect lives.
Remember that there are people out there with lives much worse than yours, and just be fortunate and happy that you have a life to live and aren't counting the days to death like many people in countries such as Somalia are doing

OK. Yeah would need some syncing between Outlook and Android if Google Contacts continues to be so messy. If Google Contacts worked OK then I would ditch Outlook. I only use Outlook to store my contacts, calendar and tasks. E-mail is all in Gmail. But Google Contacts loves adding people automatically. Like adding your GReader and Buzz contacts without asking you. Google Calendar works pretty well but Google Tasks is pretty pathetic, which is a shame as I would love to have everything inside Gmail.

I agree with Avenue Q. I do think everyone’s a little bit racist, we’re all just born not perfect in the sense of equality no matter how hard we try to deny it. As long as it doesn’t cause real damage to anyone, it should be tolerable. If we could just accept this and deal with it, we’d probably live in harmony.

A number of high-profile web industry leaders have quit Facebook this week, a turn of events that’s sure to heat up conversation about the social network’s perceived transgressions. Tonight leading video podcaster Leo Laporte announced that he’s closed his Facebook account and made a financial donation in support of Diaspora, a project working to create an alternative social network outside of Facebook’s control. Laporte said he was convinced to make the move by a post written by entrepreneur Jason Calacanis, in which Calacanis called Facebook a “monster” and called for users to throw their support behind OpenID and advocates of distributed social networking as open as the internet. Calacanis to date has not canceled his own Facebook account. Sponsor Earlier this week, uber-blogger Peter Rojas, co-founder of Engadget and Gizmodo, announced on Twitter that he has deactivated his Facebook account. “The issue,” he said, “is that users should have real control over what is shared, that’s…
