What’s The Buzz? He Said What About Me? Find Out Who’s Talking About You with Google Alerts

google alerts

I suspect that when Google came up with Google Alerts they knew they had a cool tool that people could use to keep track of subjects they were following and wanted the latest news on those subjects coming to them in their email inbox.

People have used Google Alerts for following things like Nascar, the musician Pink, Soccer, their favorite WWE wrestler, you name it.

But, many people have found other clever uses for it as well, as it is a very powerful tool whe it comes to staying on top of who is saying what about whom and where it was said.

Recently, one of my members shared they way they use Google Alerts with me for this very purpose, and I found it worked so well that I would now like to pass it on to you.

Google Alerts searches the Google archives for any given search term, and if it finds it, sends an email to you with the link to where it found the search term, and a summary of the text where it was found. This is very handy for someone that is either particularly vain, or someone that has a vested interest in what is said about them, or even about their product.

Doing this kind of search manually would be agonizing, as you would always get the same results, and they would not be based on the most current occurences of your keywords.

So, if you go to Google Alerts and

  1. type your name  or your product name or even your Twitter username (which looks like @rondavies);
  2. for “Type” select “Comprehensive”;
  3. for “How Often” select “once a day”; and
  4. enter your email address where asked.

You will receive any new occurences of that search term (your full name or product name) as they come into the Google archive system.

This means that if someone says something nice about you on blog XYZ.com, (or heaven forbid, not so nice), and Google spiders thier normal update for that blog and finds your name, you will be notified by email within the day.

Then you can either thank them, or spank them I suppose, depending on the nature of the comment or post where your name or product name were found #;>)

Another very cool, very easy to use tool from my little toolbox.

Have a great day!

Clickbank Thank You Page Magic

The Clickbank Thank You Page is a place where a tremendous number of vendors go off the rails.

Sure, the page complies to the Clickbank requirements, but does it really meet the needs and best serve the interests of the vendor? If it is only built to the minimum Clickbank specs, than no, you can rest assured it does NOT work to your best interest.

Remember, this page is your first contact with the customer after he has given you his money; get a little personal with him. Sure, OTO’s are fine, but let’s make sure everything goes well with his initial purchase item as well.

Let’s make sure there is a picture of a person there smiling away at them, ready to answer their questions about downloads and how to use Winzip (if this applies), and lets make sure there is a telephone number even if it is a message that helps to address whatever types of problems you expect with post-sale.

Lets make sure our Aweber account has a simple series of emails that will automatically go out to the customer ensuring that they had no difficulty accessing the product download and understand how to use it.

Ooops!

How do we connect our Clickbank page with Aweber? Sure, we could put a form in and tell them we will send them updates if they subscribe, but the fact is that only about 40% of them will use the form, and of those almost half will give you the spam email account they never check.

You could force them to fill out a form to get the download, but that would definitely violate the Clickbank agreement.

So, how do we get the real email address from them to make sure a failed download or a misunderstanding or a lack of training on accessing or using the product does not escalate into a refund?

We use the email address they gave Clickbank, they one they get the sales receipt at, which is NEVER the spam email address that they reserve for junk mail.

We will even auto-submit the form in the background for them, and they will never even know it happened.  They agrred to be conatcted by the vendor for customer support issues, and we dont intend to spam them, right?

We are only going to contact them for the follow up to ensure they are happy, have the download, and understand how to use it and how to reach you if they need help.

There are two easy-to-set-up files in the download link below that will take care of all of this for you.

How to Check Your Website Future Google Pagerank

Google’s “Pagerank” system is not actually owned by Google, it is licensed to them by Stanford University, to whom Google paid about 1.2 million Google shares. Stanford since them sold the shares for a cool $336 million.

Pagerank in a nutshell:

… a PageRank results from a “ballot” among all the other pages on the World Wide Web about how important a page is..

How it is derived is shown here at Wikipedia if you are interested, but really this article concerns itself more with finding out what your Pagerank is, and even more importantly, what it is going to be the next time the system at Google runs an update.

To see what your Pagerank is right now, simply go to Google.com and install the Google toolbar, which any Internet marketer worth thier salt is using every day to simplify tasks anyway. Be sure to select the box to “Enable Pagerank”, then restart the browser, and go to any webage and you will see the result in a little graph on the Google toolbar. Mouse over the graph, and it gives you a text explanation of the rank.

Now that you know what your pagerank is currently, how can you find out what it will be after the Walmart full of Google Datacenter computers does the nexr update?

Go to a website we built specially for this purpose, www.PageRankPredition.com. There you will simply type in your site domain (this means no http://, just the www.mydomain.comsot of thing) . I also recommend you enter your email address to receive an email with your current Pagerank, as well as automatic updates should your pagerank change.

Then, click the button and the system calculates future Pagerank in a way that is completely unique to this site where:

“Our Prediction algorithm is completely different from any other system you might find. Most systems online will just use results from multiple data centers and give you an average. Our script actually gets all current results, as well as experimental results from Google labs, back-link counts from the AJAX API, MSN and Yahoo, as well as Google. We run checks based on historical data, showing which sites with similar data to current query received in an update. “

More details available on how it works and how future pagerank prediction is done.

Once you submit the form, you will see the resulting Pagerank prediction for the next system wide update at Google.
